You have an option to buy from dealers, auction sites, or directly from owners. The latter would be the best option so you would know how the vehicle was treated before. For the other two options, it would be best to run a background check on them first just to make sure you have a legitimate and fair transaction.
Auctions through banks, other financial institutions, or government auctions would probably be the safest and cheapest way to find old cars that are put up for sale. In fact, a lot of dealers acquire their vehicles from these auctions to do a little resale of their own. On the side of these institutions, they are just happy to recoup their lost revenue with a little margin on top. After all, this is not their primary business.
